Next workshop: TBD
Workshop Description:
Curious about block printing, hand printing, relief printmaking, or stamp making? Join Britt Bowen of Britt & Mars Print Co, a Salem-based printmaker, for this introductory class to the craft:
Each student will be provided with all tools and supplies. Britt will go over basic printmaking equipment and their uses, and share her experience using them, along with safety* and clean-up tips.
Students will carve easy-carve rubber blocks, 3x5 inches. Students should bring ideas/sketches for their designs to the class that they will then transfer to their blocks. Britt will be available to talk to all students who wish for feedback in order to make their designs the most successful block print.
Students will hand-print on a variety of papers, including: Japanese washi paper, handmade paper, and thicker postcards (that students can take home and mail!).
Limited to 8 students, age 18+
Every student will take home the blocks they carved and the prints they created in the class.
Students are welcome to purchase their supplies** at the end of the workshop for an additional fee ($35). This includes:
Carving tools (3 cutters)
Brayer (ink roller)
Baren (blue handpress)
Ink (used in class)
Extra rubber block
Britt will also provide a list of recommended equipment and materials, if students want to purchase their own in the future.
*Sharp tools and ink will be used in the class. Students should dress appropriately and practice caution. Britt Bowen/Britt & Mars Print Co. are not liable for injury.
**Items may be lightly used. Kit does not include: plexi plate, metal benchhook
